3 Advantages Of A Fiberglass Pool In Orange County, Ca.

In Orange County, Ca., we see a lot of plaster, pebble, and quartz pools, but we don’t see a lot of fiberglass pools. There are not many reputable fiberglass pool finish contractors in Orange County, Ca. We have encountered several poor fiberglass pool finish projects which left a stigma with us at Pool Heaven. My own swimming pool is a molded fiberglass tub that was craned into a hole and our best option was the fiberglass pool remodel.

It was my own project that opened my eyes to the benefits of a fiberglass pool. We have found only one reputable, professional fiberglass pool contractor in Orange County, Ca.  There are some great advantages of a fiberglass swimming pool.

  1. Smooth and durable
  2. Maintain color and nice appearance longer
  3. Algae and stain resistant

Fiberglass Pool Is Smooth And Durable

fiberglass poolWell, what else can you ask for, right? Older plaster, pebble, and quartz pools can be rough on your feet. Plaster pools need acid washing every 5 to 10 years due to mottling and staining while quartz and plaster are much more durable than plaster. Still, quartz and pebble are rougher from the get go especially compared to a fiberglass pool. Fiberglass is very smooth, so it is very comfortable on your feet and legs when sitting.

Quartz pools are more durable than plaster and pebble is even more durable than quartz, but a fiberglass pool is extremely durable as long as it is built well. There are layers of coats including the fiberglass coat designed to make these pools very strong. My fiberglass pool has a 15 year pool material warranty which is very high compared to industry standards.

Fiberglass Pool Will Look Great For A Very Long Time

Due to the durability of a fiberglass pool, the shell does not mottle and discolor as rapidly as other pool surface types. Plastered pools will mottle and discolor over time and quartz and pebble pools will at a slower pace. The average fiberglass pool will still look great 10 years or longer as the color of the shell maintains it’s integrity for a longer period of time. A fiberglass pool finish is more expensive than plaster, but with the right fiberglass pool contractor, you can count on a smooth, consistent color for a very long time.

Fiberglass Pool Is Hard To Stain And Hard For Algae To Cling To

fiberglass poolThe fiberglass pool is smooth and hard to stain. Metals and other products have a harder time clinging to the gel coat finish of most fiberglass pool finishes. This goes for pool algae as well. Other pool finishes are porous and allow for algae to cling into the pores. You still need algae preventative, but it is much easier to brush pool algae in a fiberglass pool as the pool algae has less of a grip on the pool finish.

For most fiberglass pools, there is one option to refinish other than to demolish and build a new pool. You can refinish your existing fiberglass pool with a new fiberglass pool finish. The total cost for my fiberglass pool remodel was around $9,000, but I love how it looks, feels, and ages. I used to look at my fiberglass pool negatively, but since I found this reputable, professional fiberglass pool contractor, I am happy to have a fiberglass pool.
